Why Does Your Hair Frizz Up When You Brush it?

Most conventional hairbrushes as act a frizz brush, rather than an anti frizz brush!

Brushing your hair can worsen the frizziness because the brush damages the cuticle, the outer layer of the hair. Damaged cuticles then absorb more moisture from the air, resulting in frizzy locks.

What Helps Frizzy Hair (And What Doesn’t)?

There are so many hair products available in salons, supermarkets, drug stores and online that claim to cater to frizzy hair. If your hair is prone to frizziness, chances are that you’ve tried countless bottles of magic potions.

You’d probably agree that many don’t actually live up to their claims.  Some can even cause further damage to your hair.

When it comes to washing your hair, you really need to avoid shampoos and conditioners that contain harsh chemicals like sulfur or alcohol. These chemicals strip moisture from your hair, causing it to become even drier and more brittle. Find nourishing formulations that will put moisture back into the hair and smooth the cuticles.

You may also be tempted to reach for the hair straightener or curling wand to fix the problem. But the fix is only temporary. In fact, applying heat to hair that is dry, can worsen the condition in the long term.

Another way people tend to combat frizz is to apply a silicone-based hair product. Again this is a short-term fix.

You really need to get down to the root of the problem (pun intended!).

How Do You Get Rid of Frizzy Hair at Home?

Leave the mixture on for 40 minutes, then wash your hair as normal.  Applied once or twice a week, this coconut oil treatment will provide deep conditioning to your hair and drastically reduce frizziness.

Another option is to use coconut milk. Gently warm some coconut milk, apply it to your hair and scalp and then leave it to dry for 30 minutes. As with the coconut oil, the milk can be easily washed out and applied up to two times per week.

These coconut treatments will provide deep conditioning and nourishment for your hair, making it shiny, strong, smooth and frizz free.

Caring For Straight But Frizzy Hair

Of all the different hair types, straight hair is most likely to smooth itself out over time. However, frizzy straight hair can still be aggravated by too much heat or by over washing. Wash straight hair a maximum of four times per week, and only blow dry it until it is about 75 percent dry.

Smoothing Wavy Hair

Wavy hair should be washed at most every other day and is best air dried. A small amount of Argan, avocado or macadamia oil will do wonders to your hair. Apply only to the ends and bottom-third of the lengths of your hair to avoid an oily scalp.

Taming Curly Hair

To keep frizziness at bay, curly hair should never be washed more than twice each week. Air drying is always best, but it you’re running short on time, dry your hair from the ends upwards and always use a diffuser.
